Horner and Marcy earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors
GREENWOOD, Ind. (November 16, 2017) – Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball senior libero Sydni Horner and St. John Fisher College senior outside hitter Anna Marcy were named to the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Volleyball Team. Horner was named to the District 2 First Team, an area encompassing Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia, while Marcy was named to the District 3 First Team, fully comprised of New York schools.
Horner concluded her career on Castle Point with 2,605 digs over 147 matches. The Columbia, Maryland native averaged 5.25 digs per set over 496 career sets and broke both the program and the Empire 8 Conference career digs record earlier this season. The Computer Science major boasts a 3.93 cumulative grade point average and was recently named the Empire 8's Libero/Defensive Specialist of the Year for the third consecutive season, becoming the first player in conference history to do so.
Marcy capped her four-year career after being named the Empire 8 Conference's Co-Player of the Year for her outstanding all-around play throughout the season. Marcy, who was also named First-Team All-Conference for the second straight season, finished the year with a team-high 383 kills, 1,016 attempts, 56 service aces, 53.0 total blocks and 470 points. The senior finished second in the conference in total kills and average points per set with 4.65, as well as fifth in service aces and eighth in total blocks.
For her four-year career, Marcy, who recorded 10 double-doubles as a senior, finished as one of the top hitters in program history and ranks second all-time in program history in kills with 1,307. The Penfield native boasts a 3.92 gpa as a Nursing major.
Horner and Marcy are now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-American Team, which will be announced in December.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District Volleyball Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom.
