Athletes of the Week: Nov. 13-19, 2017

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced that six student-athletes in four different sports have been recognized for outstanding play during the week of Nov. 13-19, 2017.... 

Men’s Basketball Player – Houghton
Dylan Lambert, Junior, Guard – Amherst, NY/Williamsville North
 
Dylan Lambert averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds and 4.67 assists in a 2-1 for Houghton. He started off the week with 34 points on 54 percent (13-for-24) from the floor, including the game winning layup in overtime against Wells. On Friday, he finished with 10 points, 11 boards and six assists in the 63-60 win over Allegheny. He once again had the game winning shot, this time a three-pointer with less than a minute left as Houghton trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half. Lambert capped off his week with 16 points and 12 rebounds against Stevenson.
 
Men’s Basketball Rookie – Hartwick
Kevin Townes, Freshman, Guard – Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes
 
Kevin Townes, who scored five points in his collegiate debut against Union on Wednesday, erupted for 30 points hitting 7-of-19 from the field, including five three-pointers, and went 11-of-12 from the free-throw line to pace the Hawks in a 96-85 loss to Skidmore on Saturday.
 
Women’s Basketball Player – Elmira
Rachel Vespucci, Junior, Forward – Macedon, NY/Our Lady of Mercy
 
Rachel Vespucci averaged a double-double to help the Soaring Eagles open the 2017-18 season with a perfect 3-0 record, the program's best start in 19 years, and capture the Max Ziel Tournament title. She averaged 12.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in additional to making two blocks and dishing out five assists. Vespucci registered double-doubles in two of the three wins, including a 15-point, 14-rebound effort in EC's victory over Keystone in the opening round of the Max Ziel Tournament. She also turned in a 14-point, 10-rebound performance in Elmira's 70-62 season-opening win over Hilbert.
 
Women’s Basketball Rookie – Sage
Madasyn Bush, Freshman, Forward – Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central
 
Madasyn Bush made her collegiate debut on Nov. 18 and finished with 10 points and six rebounds against Haverford. In the team's win against Penn-State Harrisburg on Nov. 19, she posed her first career double-double as she scored 10 points and hauled in 10 rebounds in the action.
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete – Utica
Matt Patton, Sophomore, Diving – Waterford, CT/Waterford
 
Matt Patton had an impressive week on the board for Utica, earning four first place finishes over the course of two meets. He broke his own school record in the 3-meter 6-dive as he posted a score of 210.97 at Hamilton College on Friday afternoon. He won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions on Friday to pull in 18 team points for Utica. He posted a score of 206.25 to take home first in the 1-meter. On Saturday he collected 18 more team points as he came in first in both 1-meter competitions against Skidmore. He posted scores of 164.25 and 185.48 to sweep the diving competition against Skidmore.
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete – Stevens
Kaitlynn Prescott, Senior – Escondido, CA / Escondido
 
Kaitlynn Prescott won two individual events at the United States Merchant Marine Academic Memorial Invitational. Prescott won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:58.24, a full five seconds ahead of her closest competitor. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:38.45, besting the runner-up by a second-and-a-half. Prescott took fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.01) and was part of the 400 free relay (4:05.48) that took fourth and the 200 medley relay (2:02.64) that placed fifth.
