Men’s Basketball Player – St. John Fisher
Tyler English, Senior, Guard – Lockport, NY/St. Mary's
Tyler English notched a double-double in the Cardinals' only contest last week as Fisher handed Wooster, which was receiving votes in the preseason D3hoops.com national poll, a 90-57 loss. English was 9-for-12 (.750) from the field and finished a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Lockport, N.Y. native also added three assists in the win and hauled down four boards on the offensive end of the floor. English was 5-for-6 from the charity stripe and had one blocked shot in all.
Men’s Basketball Rookie – Hartwick
Kevin Townes, Freshman, Guard – Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes
Kevin Townes had a team-high 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting in a 97-85 victory for Hartwick over Bard on Tuesday. He added four three-pointers, nine rebounds, and five assists in the game as the Hawks won their first game of the season. On Sunday in a 97-65 exhibition loss at Division I Binghamton University, Townes tied for a team-high with 15 points. He connected on two three-pointers and tied for a team-high with five rebounds.
Women’s Basketball Player – Nazareth
Samantha Peebles, Senior, Guard – Syracuse, NY/Westhill
Samantha Peebles averaged 21.5 points and six assists in a 1-1 week for Nazareth after shooting 44.8 percent from the floor (13-for-29). Peebles scored a career-high 28 points on 9-for-19 from the floor, including going 7-for-12 from 3-point range to help Naz defeat Oswego 66-37 on Tuesday. She also had 10 rebounds and three assists. On Sunday she led Nazareth with 15 points (4-for-10), while grabbing two rebounds and dishing out two assists in a 70-48 loss to John Carroll.
Women’s Basketball Rookie – Alfred
Amanda Figueroa, Freshman, Guard – Cypress, TX/Rosehill Christian
Amanda Figueroa was key in the Saxons’ first win of the season as she shot 63.6% on the day, making 7-of-11 on field goals, including 4-of-8 from three-point land. She finished the evening against Fredonia with 18 points to set her collegiate career-high. She also tied her collegiate best in total rebounds with five, setting her best in defensive rebounds at five against Fredonia. Figueroa tacked on five more rebounds against Hilbert and set a career-best of three steals in the matchup. On the week, Figueroa had 10 rebounds (nine defensive), four assists, four steals and 20 points (10.0 per game).
