Stevens Wins the 2017 Volleyball Championship
The Stevens Institute of Technology volleyball team took home the program's fifth Empire 8 Conference title on Sunday afternoon, with a three-set victory over Nazareth College at Canavan Arena.
The top-seeded Ducks swept the second-seeded Golden Flyers, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14), behind a .333 hitting percentage (42 kills, 9 errors, 99 attempts).
The title is the first since 2014 for the Ducks and fifth overall since 2007. Sophomore Sara Hain was named the most outstanding player after hitting .545 (8-2-11) in the title match. Hain hit .600 (6-0-10) in the semifinal match.
It is the ninth time in league history the championship match has been decided in three sets since the tournament begin in 2002.
Stevens improves to 26-7 and earns the Empire 8 Conference's bid to the NCAA Tournament, while Nazareth finishes the season 21-13.
