Presidents to face Centre (Ky.) in NCAA First Round match
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- With its 3-1 win over Utica on Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Game, the Washington & Jefferson field hockey team clinched its second trip in program history to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.
The Presidents enter the tournament with a 13-4 overall record after having won 12 of their last 13 games and will face Centre (Ky.) on the road in Danville, Ky., on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 3:00 p.m. on South Campus Field (
directions).
After the conclusion of the E8 Championship game, junior
Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) was named Tournament MVP as
Gabby Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford),
Claire Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) and
Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) were among the four Presidents selected for the All-Tournament Team.
The Colonels enter Wednesday's game with a 15-4 overall record and have won seven straight contests, including the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Championship where they went 3-0. It is their fourth all-time appearance in the NCAA playoffs and first since 2014. Centre reached the NCAA field as a Pool B selection, which grants entry to schools from conferences without an automatic qualifier.
