O'Connell and Richard Named To D3 Football Team of the Week
The College at Brockport safety Jake O'Connell and SUNY Cortland linebacker Kyle Richard have been named to the
D3football.com Team of the Week for games played Nov. 3-4, 2017.
O'Connell recorded seven tackles (six solo) in a 35-25 win vs. Alfred, helping clinch the Empire 8. His interception last week was returned for a 15-yard touchdown, his second defensive TD of the season. It also stifled a momentum swing for Alfred, who had scored on two straight drives and were looking to take their first lead of the game.
Richard recorded a game-high 15 tackles in Cortland's 24-23 home win against Utica last Saturday. Twelve of his tackles were solo stops, and he also registered both a sack and a fumble recovery on the day. His sack helped stop Utica's final drive and preserve the victory.
Richard set a new career-high for tackles, which is two more than his previous career-high set earlier this season. Richard has recorded 47 tackles in his last four contests and now has 60 tackles on the year.
