Athletes of the Week: Dec. 4-10, 2017

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced that eight student-athletes in four different sports have been recognized for outstanding play during the week of Dec. 4-10, 2017.... 

Men’s Basketball Player – Sage
Isaiah Scurry, Sophomore, Guard – Albany, NY/Albany
 
Isaiah Scurry averaged 17.67 points in three games for Sage and knocked down a school record eight three-pointers in a game. He scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds against Southern Vermont before finishing with 10 points and five rebounds against Bard. Scurry saved his best game of the week for last as he scored a career-best 31 points, with eight three-pointers, in the win over SUNY-Poly.  The 31 points ranked fifth in a single-game performance at Sage all-time.
 
Men’s Basketball Rookie – Utica
Kobe Lufkin, Freshman, Guard - Argyle, NY/Argyle
 
Came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points in UC's win over Morrisville. Lufkin shot 5-for-8 from behind the 3-point arc and added a career-high of four assists.
 
Women’s Basketball Player – Stevens
Anna Toke, Senior, Center – Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic
 
Anna Toke averaged 14 points and 13.5 rebounds in collecting her third and fourth doubles-doubles of the season as Stevens defeated DeSales University and fell to Ithaca College. Toke shot 9-for-21 (43%) from the field and 10-for-11 (91%) from the free throw line, while adding 10 assists, seven blocks and two steals.
 
Women’s Basketball Rookie – Utica
Brigid Johndrow, Freshman, Guard – Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic
 
Brigid Johndrow made her seventh start and tallied three assists and four rebounds in the Pioneers lone game of the week against SUNY Poly.
 
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete – Utica
Jessica Ostrowski, Freshman – Peabody, MA/Peabody
 
In her first collegiate track meet, Jessica Ostrowski ran a time of 11:07.90 on her way to winning first place in the 3,000-meter run out of 17 competitors.
 
Women’s Indoor Field Athlete – Nazareth
Alycia Eaton, Junior – Remsen, NY/Remsen
 
Alycia Eaton had a strong start to the season, winning both the long and triple jump at the RIT Early Season Invite. She posted an ECAC qualifying mark of 5.31 meters in the long jump (17 feet, 5 ¼ inches) and 11.14 meters (36 feet, 6 ¾ inches) in the triple jump.
 
Men’s Indoor Track Athlete – Nazareth
Nick LaBarbera, Senior – Red Hook, NY/Red Hook
 
Nick LaBarbera took the top spot in the 200 (23:06) and was second in the 60-meter dash (7.29) at the RIT Early Season invite on Thursday.
 
Men’s Indoor Field Athlete – St. John Fisher
Mark VanMarter, Senior – Liverpool, NY/Liverpool
 
Mark VanMarter took first place in the long jump event, jumping 7.17 meters. This distance is good for third nationally as well. VanMarter also took first place in the triple jump event with a distance of 13.30 meters.
