The Empire 8 Conference is full of talented student-athletes and the E8 Spotlight is one way for fans to get to know them.

Alex LaPoint (Fairport, NY/Fairport) is a senior physical therapy major on the Nazareth College swimming and diving team.

Why did you choose to attend Nazareth? I was a transfer student my sophomore year. I swam at Canisius College for a year and changed my career goals. I was looking for a physical therapy program and Nazareth’s six-year doctoral program really stuck out to me and was a good fit.

What has been the greatest part of your experience as a college athlete?  Each year the swim team takes a trip to Florida to focus on training. We swim twice a day and enjoy time on the beach and I am grateful to be able to spend time with those people.

Who has been the most influential person during your athletic career? Why? I had a coach in high school who really harnessed my potential.  I had some lofty goals as a senior and my coach was ready to get down to work to help push me through to the next level.

Where do you see yourself in five years? I would like to be in medical school.

What do you like most about competing in the E8? The comradery and respect amongst the opponents.

What do you do in your spare time? In the very small amount of spare time I do have I enjoy watching movies, reading and spending time with friends and not worrying about school or swimming.

Top 3 things on your bucket list? Skydiving. Visit Australia and New Zealand. Sfoot on each continent. Learn to play the piano.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I have met Michael Phelps.
