Athletes of the Week: Dec. 11-17, 2017

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced that four student-athletes in two different sports have been recognized for outstanding play during the week of Dec. 11-17, 2017.... 

Men’s Basketball Player – Elmira
Hayden Harkins, Senior, Forward – Tampa, FL/Newsome
 
Hayden Harkins drained an Elmira College and Empire 8 record-setting 11 3-pointers to help lead the Soaring Eagles to a 111-100 signature win over visiting St. Lawrence. He finished with a game-and career-high 33 points, all of which came on 3-point buckets. Harkins went 11-for-18 (61.1%) from 3-point range and totaled four assists as well as a pair of rebounds. Of his 11 3-pointers, eight came in the first half, which helped Elmira produce its highest point total in 24 seasons.
 
Men’s Basketball Rookie – Hartwick
Kevin Townes, Freshman, Guard – Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes
 
Kevin Townes contributed a double-double of 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in an 89-76 comeback win over Cobleskill on Saturday. He also dished out five assists in the game.
 
Women’s Basketball Player – Utica
Ashelyne Babb, Senior, Guard – Lynn, MA/Winthrop
 
Senior Ashelyne Babb netted a game-high 23 points and added eight assists in Utica’s 77-69 win over Morrisville on Saturday. On the season, she leads the team with 13.9 points and 3.8 assists per game.
 
Women’s Basketball Rookie – Hartwick
Kelly Pine, Freshman, Forward – Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls
 
Kelly Pine averaged 14 points and five rebounds as the Hawks went 1-1 on the week. Pine scored a career best 21 points against nationally ranked Scranton and then contributed seven points and seven rebounds against FDU-Florham.
