The Houghton College women's soccer program has been awarded the College Team & Ethics Sportsmanship Platinum Award from the United Soccer Coaches association following the fall 2017 season.

Houghton was just one of 10 teams in NCAA Division III women's soccer to complete the 2017 season with no yellow and no red cards. The team will be recognized for this accomplishment at the annual USC Convention in January.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award was created to recognize teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game. To qualify for the award a team may not have received any red cards at any time during the season. The season includes all regular season and post season contests.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Awards are broken down into four categories:
Platinum Award: 0 Yellow Cards, 0 Red Cards
Gold Award: 1-10%
Silver Award: 11-30%
Bronze Award: 31-50%
The percentage formula is the number of cards accumulated divided by the number of games played.

Stevens Institute of Technology women's socer team received the silver award.
