The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced that ten student-athletes in six different sports have been recognized for outstanding play during the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3, 2017.... 

Men’s Basketball Player – Utica
Ivan Iton, Senior, Forward – Ossining, NY/Ossining
 
Ivan Iton averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game in a 1-1 week for Utica. He also shot 57% from the floor on the week. He was 9-for-17 from the floor and recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals against Cazenovia on Monday. He added a team-high 23 points (7-for-11), eight rebounds and two steals against Hamilton on Friday night.
 
Men’s Basketball Rookie – Stevens
Alec Dipietrantonio, Freshman, Forward – Mt. Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace
 
Alec Dipietrantonio shot 80% from the floor in the Ducks 77-67 win last week.
In 12 minutes of action, he poured in eight points (4-of-5), grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
 
Women’s Basketball Player – Elmira
Danielle Cleary, Senior, Guard – Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy
 
Danielle Cleary averaged 16 points per game in a 3-0 week for the Soaring Eagles. She netted a season-best 22 points in a 63-49 win over Penn College (11/27) with seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Clearly made all five of her free throws and buried a trio of 3-pointers against the Wildcats. She played all 40 minutes and recorded 20 points in an 82-77 victory at SUNY Cortland (11/30). Five of her six field goals were made from 3-point range, and she hauled in five rebounds and dished out five assists vs. the Red Dragons. Clearly finished the week with six points, five rebounds and two assists in a 61-55 win over Wells (12/3).
 
Women’s Basketball Rookie – Hartwick
Mary Schoenherr, Freshman, Guard – Unionville, CT/Farmington
 
Mary Schoenherr was a pair of assists and four steals away from a quadruple-double in a late come-from-behind 65-59 victory over city-rival SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday. She finished the game with 14 points, and game-highs of 10 rebounds and eight assists. She also had a game-high six steals as the Hawks battled back from a five-point deficit with under four minutes remaining.
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete – Nazareth
Seth Farrand, Freshman – Frankinville, NY/Franklinville
 
Seth Farrand took direct aim on the Nazareth swimming and diving record book over the weekend as he led the Golden Flyers to a fourth-place finish at Ithaca's Bomber Invitational. He was part of five record-breaking swims, including a fourth place in the 50 freestyle (:20.96) and third place in the 100 free (:46.11). He also swam the anchor freestyle leg on three record relays -- a split of :20.52 in the 200 free relay that finished second (1:26.00); a split of :20.60 in the 200 medley relay that finished third (1:35.63); and a split of :45.81 in the 400 free relay that finished third (3:10.70).
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete – Stevens
Courtney Jones, Junior – Fredericksburg, VA/Fredricksburg Christian
 
Courtney Jones led Stevens women's swimming at the Gompei Invitational, earning two second-place finishes and a third-place finish in individual competition and one second-place and three third-place finishes in relays. Jones finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.76) and the 100-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 52.18 seconds. She tied for third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.50). The 200-yard freestyle relay finished second (1:38.90), just forth-five-hundredths of a second behind Rowan. Jones was also part of three third place relays; 200-yard medley (1:48.07), 400-yard medley (3:59.69) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.45).
 
 
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete – Stevens
Mary Visca, Junior – Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland
 
Mary Visca kicked off her indoor track season competing in the Springfield Invite. Visca took first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:19.06.
 
Women’s Indoor Field Athlete – Stevens
Katie Weeks, Sophomore – Toms River, NJ/Msgr. Donovan
 
Katie Weeks won two events at the season-opening Springfield Invite. Weeks set a school record in the shot put with a throw of 13.06 meters and toss a distance of 13.46 meters in the weight throw.  
 
Men’s Indoor Track Athlete – St. John Fisher
Peter Girardi, Senior – Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse
 
Peter Girardi and the Cardinals competed in the Brockport Early Season Invite over the weekend to kick off the 2017-18 track and field season. Girardi claimed first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.96, ranking him first in the country in the event. Girardi also competed alongside his teammates in the 4x400 team relay, taking fifth place in 3:33.04.
 
Men’s Indoor Field Athlete – Alfred
Seth Spicer, Senior – Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post
 
Senior Seth Spicer won the heptathlon at the Brockport Early Season Invitational on Friday and Saturday by almost 1,000 points. He defeated opponents from The College at Brockport, Alfred State College and Division II Roberts Wesleyan College. Spicer finished the event with 4,726 points. Out of the seven events, Spicer finished in the top spot in five of them. Summary of Events: 60-meter dash: 7.47 – 723 points. Long jump: 5.83m – 550 points. Shot put: 12.87m – 659 points. High jump: 1.85m (personal best) – 670 points. 60-meter hurdles: 8.97 – 752 points. Pole vault: 3.95m – 603 points. 1,000-meter run: 2:49.63 – 769 points.
