Markarian Named Field Hockey All-American For Second Consecutive Year

PITTSFORD, N.Y.Emily Markarian of the St. John Fisher College field hockey team was named a Second Team All-American by the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 for her on-field performances during the 2017 season.
 
This is the second consecutive season that Markarian has been named a Second Team All-American selection by the NFHCA. The Orchard Park Native finished her memorable four-year Cardinal career as the current program leader in goals (76), assists (21), points (173), shots (402), goals in a season (23), and points in a game (eight).
 
The senior helped lead the Cardinals to a sixth straight Empire 8 Tournament appearance in 2017, as well as the programs first Empire 8 Championship title in 2016.
 
Markarian did not disappoint on the field in her senior season, as she finished her career by being named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She is just the second player in league history to win the award twice. Markarian, who was also named First Team All-Conference for the second straight season, finished the 2017 campaign with a conference-high 23 goals and 50 points, as well as finishing second in the conference in shots (111) and game-winning goals (4).
 
Aside from being selected as an All-American, Markarian has been awarded a number of different honors throughout her four-year career including Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2016, First Team All-Region in 2016 and 2017, as well as numerous weekly honors. She also recently participated in the Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior Game held at Bellarmine University for 72 of the top seniors in the country.
