Ithaca Women’s Track & Field Jumps to No. 2 in the Nation
USTFCCCA RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Ithaca College women's track & field program is now the No. 2 team in the country according to the latest USTFCCCA Division III Top 25 Poll, which was released on Tuesday, February 14.
The No. 2 national ranking is the highest Ithaca has ever been ranked since the USTFCCCA began releasing a top 25 poll (2010). Ithaca began the year at No. 5 and has held steady at the position. The Bombers' performance at the Empire 8 Conference Championships vaulted the program three spots.
MIT currently holds the top spot in the country with 125.98 points, while Ithaca has amassed 110.57 points.
The USTFCCCA rankings are compiled via a point system based off individual performances. Ithaca currently holds seven top 10 marks over six events.
Senior
Katherine Pitman is the nation's leader in the pole vault with a mark of 4.25 meters, a Division III indoor record, which accounts for 26.25 points.
Junior
Taryn Cordani ranks second in the 5,000-meter run at 17:02.64 (20.32 points) and third in the 3,000-meter run at 9:47.88 (17.61 points.
Senior
Brandy Smith is third in the shot put (14.29 meters) and sixth in the weight throw (17.91 meters), to total 29.38 points.
Freshman
Beth Cripps sits eighth in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 3.76 meters to give her 8.77 points towards the national rankings.
Ithaca's distance medley relay team of Cordani, juniors
Sierra Grazia and
Brianna Hayes, and sophomore
Emilie Mertz hold the ninth fastest time in the country at 12:18.95, which provides 5.93 points to the team total.
