Pellegrino Scores 1,000 Career Point
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Phil Pellegrino finished his career as a Houghton Highlander by nailing his second game-winning three-pointer in the last three games to defeat the Alfred University Saxons, 87-86, in front of a raucous Nielsen Center crowd.
Pellegrino crossed the 1,000 point threshold for his career in the first two minutes of the game, sinking a pair of free throws. He finished his night with 14 points.
On the night when Houghton honored four seniors, three—Pellegrino,
Johnathan Stowe and
Jordan Scott—scored 14 points apiece. Stowe added eight rebounds and six assists, Scott chipped in seven assists and four rebounds, and
John Nelson added three blocks and three assists.
With tonight's victory, the Highlanders reached the 10-win plateau for the second consecutive season (12 wins last season); the first time the program has accomplished that feat since 1994-95 and 1995-96.
