Ithaca Secures 16th NYSCTC Title!

RESULTS

CANTON, N.Y. –
The nationally ranked No. 4 Ithaca College women's track & field program earned its 16th NYSCTC Championship on Saturday afternoon inside the Newell Field House on the campus of St. Lawrence University. Ithaca recorded 218.5 points, which was 86.5 more points than the runners-up from the University of Rochester.

22175Junior Taryn Cordani was named the Track Most Outstanding Performer, while freshman Alexandria Rheaume was honored as the Rookie of the Year.

Along with her record-setting 5,000-meter run performance yesterday, Cordani won the mile in a time of 5:06.91, which was nearly four seconds faster than the runner-up.

Rheaume claimed the top spot in the 200-meter dash at 25.80 seconds and was the runner-up in the 400 in 58.88 seconds.

Junior Amber Edwards raced the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.27 seconds to place second. Freshman Sarah Rudge finished the 1,000-meter run in 3:02.94 to come in second, while junior Sierra Grazia clocked a time of 5:10.87 in the mile to also take runner-up honors.

Senior Brandy Smith was another runner-up on Saturday in the shot put with a mark of 12.49 meters (40 feet, 11.75 inches).

Junior Denise Ibarra finished the 3,000-meter run with a second place performance with a time of 10:24.15. Freshman Estelle Yedynak was third in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5' 1"). Freshman Caity Schmitz claimed third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.75 meters (35' 3.25").

Sophomore Gianna Folz took fourth in the 60 hurdles at 9.61 seconds, while classmate Britney Swarthout was another four place runner in the 500-meter dash at 1:19.96. Freshman Maria Matkoski was fourth in the 800-meter run at 2:21.72.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Matkoski and freshmen Jessica Competiello, Madelyn McConnon and Maggie Nickerson posted a time of 10:03.56 to finish fourth.

Grazia also ran in the 1K and placed fifth in 3:04.41, while sophomore Emilie Mertz took fifth in the mile at 5:15.32.

The Bombers went 5-6-7 in the 60-meter dash, as sophomore Lusmer Quintana led the way at 8.15 seconds, classmate Jordan Beckley followed in 8.16 seconds and freshman Amanda Wetmore posted a time of 8.17 seconds.

Senior Natalie Meyer took sixth in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5' 1"), while freshman Adelia Alexander also cleared 1.55 meters and finished seventh.

Quintana finished the 200 in 27.05 seconds, which was good for sixth. Nickerson completed the 800 in 2:28.66 to claim seventh in the event. Graduate student Michael Cioffredi took eighth in the 3K at 10:41.35.

ST. JOHN FISHER
Freshmen Lauren Wiard and Tayler Dence took first and second place in the 60-meter dash, Wiard finishing with the first place time of 8.00, while Dence finished in 8.06. Both athletes qualified for ECACs in the event.

Dence finished in third place in the 60-meter hurdles at an ECAC Qualifying mark of 9.31, tying her personal record that she set at the Empire 8 Championships. Melissa Vaughn took fifth in the event with a time of 9.66.

Senior Chelsea Cleveland took fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.43, and in the 500-meter dash Emily Strongwould finish in 12 at 1:23.14, less than one second of her best time in the event.

Juliette Miller took eight in the 1,000-meter run, crossing the finish in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:09.55.

Dence took fourth in the 200-meter dash with yet another ECAC qualifying time of 26.39, Cleveland took eighth in the event with a time of 27.86.

Leah Hulbert finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 11.61 meters.

In the 4X400-meter relay, Fisher placed fourth with runners Dence, Strong, Cleveland, and Sydney Saccone. The team finished with a time of 4:08.61.

UTICA
Senior Jade Jenkins (Liverpool, NY/CNS) claimed the NYSCTC title in the women's triple jump as she posted a distance of 10.82 meter to earn ten team points for Utica. SophomoreJenifer Stimpson (Hudson Falls, NY/Queensbury High School) set a new school-record and placed fourth overall in the women's shot put with a distance of 12.14 meters.

MaKenna Cooley (Remsen, NY/Remsen) broke her own school-record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.44 to place third and record six team points for the Pioneers. Utica's 4x800 meter relay team of Cooley, Bryanna Mazzella (Newburg, NY/Marlboro Central)Lesley Nicosia (Mountainville, NY/Cornwall Central) and Abby Schaible (Esperance, NY/Duanesburg) placed third with an ECAC qualifying time of 9:54.11 to earn six team points for the women.

NAZARETH
Emily Soeder (high jump) and Samantha Goble (800) each placed fifth in their events to highlight day two of the NYSCTC Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence.

For the women, Soeder recorded a 1.55 meter (5 feet, 1 inch) mark for fifth in the high jump.  Sarah Williams also had a strong showing at 1.50 meters (4 feet, 11 inches) to place 10th.

Goble earned fifth place in the 800 in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:22.24.

A day after taking first in the long jump, Alycia Atwell-Chwazik was fourth in the triple jump at 10.69 meters (35 feet, 1 inch), also an ECAC qualifying mark.

Other highlights included Cassie Ellis taking eighth in the 400 (1:02.33) and Sarah Williams 13th in the 500 (1:23.42).

The duo of Emily Thompson (10:47.16) and Claire Ludington (11:01.75) were 10th and 13th, respectively in the 3,000 meter run.

Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay of Ellis, Williams, Goble, and Andrea Larnard closed out the meet with an eighth place finish (4:15.09). 

ALFRED
The Saxons' only points were scored by first year triple jumper, Danielle Perry (Leicester, NY/York Central). She finished with a distance of 10.58 meters in fifth place, scoring four points. First year Krissy Roberts (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) finished 13th with a jump of 9.99 meters.

The pair also competed in the long jump. Krissy finished 11th with a time of 4.79 meters and Perry finished 13th with a distance of 4.76 meters. They also teamed with first years Megan Alper (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and Allyson Cohen (Merrick, NY/John F. Kennedy) in the 4x200 meter relay, finishing 10th with a time of 1:56.26. Then they paired with Cohen again and first year Amanda Roberts (Amherst, NY/Amherst) in the 4x400 meter relay to finished 11th with a time of 4:35.96.
