E8 Teams Wrap up at NYSCTC Championships

RESULTS

CANTON, N.Y. –
The Ithaca College men's track & field team posted a strong second day at the NYSCTC Championships to finish as the runners-up inside the Newell Field House on the campus of St. Lawrence University. Ithaca posted a team total of 146 points, which was 50.5 behind Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Sophomore Derek Howes won the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:06.51, while senior Sean Phillips was a runner-up in the mile with a time of 4:16.84.

Junior Gerardo Munoz finished third in the 500 at 1:07.23, while junior Tim Chappell finished the 3,000-meter run in a third place time of 8:49.57.

Phillips also ran the 1,000-meter event and took fourth in a time of 2:34.64. Freshman Robert Greenwald tied for third in the high jump at 1.88 meters (6 feet, 2 inches).

The 4x800-meter relay team of freshmen Patrick Robertson, Logan Winningham and Forest Stewart, and sophomore Daniel Hart posted a time of 8:05.68 to come in third overall.

Junior Seth Abbott, sophomore Lee Matthews and freshman Connor Florczyk went 3-4-5 in the heptathlon on Saturday. Abbott totaled 4434 points and posted three third place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run. Matthews notched 4169 points and was the runner-up in the pole vault. Florczyk amassed 3971 points with a fifth place showing in the 60 hurdles.

Sophomore Alex Arika and senior Roosevelt Lee went 4-5 in the triple jump with marks of 13.22 meters (43' 4.5") and 13.17 meters (43' 2.5").

Freshman Daniel Harden-Marshall took fifth place honors in the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.50 seconds. Harden-Marshall also took fourth in the 200-meter dash at 22.87 seconds.

Ithaca 4x400-meter relay squad of Howes, Munoz, Harden-Marshall and sophomore Aaron Smith maneuver around the track in 3:26.89 seconds to finish in fifith.

Senior Larry Cass measured out 14.07 meters (46' 5.5") in the shot put to finish sixth, while classmate Jesse Capellaro came in seventh in the 3K with a time of 8:54.92. Senior Andrew Ward was sixth in the high jump at 1.83 meters (6').

UTICA
Senior sprinter Nicodemus Gambill (Rochester, NY/East High) won the men's 60 meter dash final with a time of 6.97 and he also added a victory in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.14 to compile 20 team points for the Pioneers.

Utica's Sam Kaczmarek (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor ) won the men's shot put with a distance of 15.69 meters to earn ten team points, while Sam Bonk (Williamsville, NY/Clarence) added a seventh place finish for UC with a distance of 13.96 meters in the shot put.

Ka'Sean Watlington (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Bluepoint) and Clarence Skipper (Albany, NY/Guilderland) placed 2-3 in the men's triple jump to combine for 14 team points for the Pioneers.  Watlington posted a 13.79m and Skipper added a distance of 13.63m.

Utica freshman Mitchell Marlow (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) placed fifth in the men's one mile race with a time of 4:23.61 to earn four team points, while Erik Winberg (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) placed fifth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:35.90.

Kevin Gangemi (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central High School) placed third in the men's 400 meter dash finals with a time of 50.138 and Erik Gleba (Cassville, NY/Sauquoit Valley) placed eighth in the 500 meter dash with a season-best time of 1:08.49.

Nicholas Ashton (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Joe Topa, Tyler Wright (Little Falls, NY/West Canada Valley) and Mitchell Marlow (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) teamed up and placed second in the men's 4x800 meter race with an ECAC qualifying time of 8:04.40. The men's 4x400 meter team of Brendan Moore, Tyler Sutton (Deerfield, NY/Whitesboro)Erik Gleba(Cassville, NY/Sauquoit Valley) and Kevin Gangemi (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central High School) placed fourth overall with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:26.37.

NAZARETH
Senior Matt Battaglia raced to a second place finish in the 800, while Emily Soeder (high jump) and Samantha Goble (800) each placed fifth in their events to highlight day two of the NYSCTC Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence.

 Battaglia (1:56.86) was just edged out for the top spot in the 800 by Erik Diehl (1:56.44) of Alfred for the top spot. 

The Syracuse, NY native also teamed up with Nick LaBarberaJenoy Merchant, and Nathaniel Murad to rip off the sixth fastest time (3:27.05) of the day in the 4 x 400, which was an ECAC qualifying time. 

LaBarbera was able to secure fourth place in the 400 in an ECAC mark of 50.33.

Murad also competed in the 500-meter run, finishing in 13th place (1:09.79).

ALFRED
The Saxons were paced by first place finishers Erik Diehl (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) in the 800 meter run as he ran an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying time of 1:56.44 and Seth Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) as he won the two-day heptathlon with a new facility record of 4,859 points.

Spicer out-paced his opponents in the 1,000 meter run (2:44.50), the 60 meter hurdles (8.73) and the long jump (6.23 meters). He was also named the NYSCTC Field Athlete of the Meet.

Senior Jeffrey Nunez (Wurtsboro, NY/Ellenville) was the next highest finisher for Alfred University. He finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.77 meters. The distance was well beyond the ECAC qualifying mark.

Junior Sammy Davis (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) finished sixth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.28.

ST. JOHN FISHER
Eddie Mahana qualified for ECACs, taking the runner up spot for the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 8.49.

Jack Behlmaier competed in the 500-meter dash where he took fourth place with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:07.34.

Robinson placed fourth in the shot put with a new personal record of 14.25 meters, while Mathewson placed 14th in the event with a mark of 12.87.

In relay events, the 4X200-meter team of Josh LambertJohn Woodworth, Behlmaier, and Mahana hit the podium with a fifth place finish and an ECAC qualifying time of 1:32.84.
