Pitman Takes Second National Athlete of the Week Honor in 2017
NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second time in less than a month, senior
Katherine Pitman of the Ithaca College women's track & field team has been named the
United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Field Athlete of the Week. Pitman also earned this honor on January 17.
Last Saturday, February 4, at the Bomber Invitational & Multi, the Swampscott, Mass. native broke the NCAA Division III Indoor record in the pole vault with a mark of 4.22 meters (13 feet, 10 inches). Pitman surpassed the previous top performance within the Division by a centimeter, which was set back in 2013 by Michelle Favre of Ramapo College.
Pitman cleared the bar on her first run to set an overall personal best in the pole vault. Her previous best mark of 4.21 meters came at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships last May in Waverly, Iowa, which was a national meet record and led her to a national title.
This is her career USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week accolade.
