Thayer on National Watch List for DIII Softball Player of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--St. John Fisher College junior Lindsey Thayer has been identified as one of 50 players nationwide on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Schutt Sports Division III National Player of the Year watch list.
In 2016, Thayer guided Fisher to it's first-ever NCAA Division III Women's College World Series. Her performance named her the program's first NFCA First Team All-American honoree, while earning All-Tournament Team honors at the CWS. Fisher advanced to the CWS after winning both the Rochester Regional and the Rochester Super-Regional with Thayer earning Most Outstanding Player and Pitcher honors in both tournaments.
She also earned NFCA First Team All-Region recognition and was named Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, while being named First Team All-Conference.
In five CWS games, she tallied 41 strikeouts while allowing just eight runs on 23 hits. Against Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she went the distance striking out a tournament-high 14, while allowing one hit and a walk in the 1-0 victory. She also had shutout wins against the University of St. Thomas and the University of Texas-Tyler, the eventual national champion.
The six-foot righty broke her own single-season record in strikeouts with 467 (second-highest single-season total in Division III history), giving her a total of 761 in her first two seasons. She set the Fisher record for wins in a season with 31, while recording 16 complete-game shutouts and eight one-hitters (also Fisher records).
Fisher began its 2017 campaign down in Kissimmee, FL for its spring break trip on March 5 and are currentlly 7-1.
