Ryan, Stenglein, Wind and Iton Named All-East Region

Four Empire 8 men's basketball players have been named to the D3hoops.com All-East Region team. St. John Fisher College senior Keegan Ryan was selected to the first team, while Nazareth College's Tyler Stenglein and Brendan Wind and Utica College's Ivan Iton were all named third team.
Ryan, who was named the Offensive Player of the Year by the Empire 8 Conference, led Fisher in several statistical categories including points per game (18.8), rebounds per game (8.9), field goal percentage (.593) and minutes per game (29.7).
This season, Ryan, scored 25 points or more in a game six times including a career-high 33 points on two occasions. He finished the 2016-17 campaign with 13 double-doubles which was one of the highest totals of any player in the Empire 8. Off the court, Ryan has performed well in the classroom as well leading him to be named Academic All-District earlier this year by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Stenglein led the Empire 8 in scoring in 2016-17 at 20.2 points per game. He also ranked sixth in rebounding (7.3 per game), seventh in assists (3.2 per game) and first in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3). He scored in double figures in all 24 games he played this season and reached 20 points or better 14 times. He scored a career-high 32 points in a home-court win over Utica Jan. 12.
Wind led the Empire 8 in assists (6.7 per game). He also was sixth in scoring (17.9 per game) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9). He started all 26 games for the Golden Flyers (15-11) and posted double-digit point totals 24 times. He came on strong near the end of the season by averaging 32.6 points over the last six games, including a 48-point explosion in a double overtime loss at St. John Fisher Feb. 11. He also was named national Player of the Week for Feb. 12.
Throughout the season, Iton led the Pioneers in points, rebounds, and blocks. His 17.1 points per game average was good enough to be ranked eighth in the Empire 8 in scoring. Iton was also ranked first in the conference in rebounds, averaging 9.9 boards per game, and first in blocked shots with an average of 2.3 blocks per game.
