The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Players of the Week for the week of play ending March 12 and four Empire 8 student-athletes have been recognized.

Baseball – Metro
Pitcher of the Week
Zeph Walters – Stevens Institute of Technology, Sr., RHP

Walters turned in a sterling performance in his first start of the season last week as Stevens downed No. 40 Johns Hopkins, 3-1. The senior right-hander scattered just two hits over seven innings, allowing one unearned run. He walked only two and struck out eight to earn his second victory of the season.

Baseball – North
Rookie of the Week
Antony Mantova – St. John Fisher College, Fr., OF

In his six games played last week, Mantova went 10-for-17 (.588) from the plate, hitting two doubles and smacking one homer. In the game against Suffolk last Friday, he reached base in all five of his plate appearances as he knocked three singles, got hit by a pitch and walked. The freshman also collected four RBI on the week, while crossing the plate three times himself. In the outfield, Mantova was flawless as he recorded nine putouts for a fielding percentage of 1.000.

Softball – North
Pitcher of the Week
Lindsey Thayer – St. John Fisher College, Jr., P

Thayer posted a 4-2 record with a 0.25 earned run average and 62 strikeouts in 35.1 innings of work. Thayer defeated No. 11 WPI after allowing just two hits over seven innings with 13 strikeouts before throwing a complete-game shutout against Meredith College. Thayer took a loss to nationally-ranked Coe College despite giving up just one hit in a 1-0 game, but bounced back with 2.2 perfect innings as the No. 2 Cardinals defeated No. 11 WPI for the second time in three days. The junior tossed all 11.0 innings in a 1-0 win over Franklin College after scattering just three hits while striking out 14.

Women’s Lacrosse – North
Offensive Player of the Week
Jordan Johnson – St. John Fisher College, Sr., A

Johnson recorded 17 points last week, helping the Cardinals earn two convincing wins in Florida. The senior netted six goals in the season opener, while also helping out on four others to earn a career-high 10 points. She then rivaled that game with a seven-point performance against Kenyon. Johnson also scooped up five groundballs on the week.
