Lynch Breaks Record for Career Goals
OSWEGO, NY – Junior
Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) netted five goals and picked up one assist as the Alfred University men's lacrosse team defeated Oswego State, 16-12, Tuesday afternoon.
With his five goals, Lynch now has 131 for his career, a new school record. He came into the contest with 126 career tallies, one off the previous school record of 127 set by Dylan Macro (2001-04).
Sophomore
Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) had a stellar outing as he scored four goals while senior
Nick Skibitsky (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) earned the hat trick and junior
Brett McMichael finished with two goals. Senior
Derek Bishopp (Corning, NY/Corning Painted Post East) and first-year defender
Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) rounded out the scoring for the Saxons (4-2), scoring a goal apiece.
Zach Anderson and
Tim Schof paced Oswego State as the both finished with two goals and two assists.
The Lakers were able to get on the board first at the 12:48 mark of the first period as
Caleb Alford scored off the assist from Anderson. The Saxons would come firing back, scoring eight unanswered goals, to take an 8-1 lead 2:28 into the second period. Two of the goals came from Lynch: the first, with 8:55 left in the opening frame, tied the school goal-scoring mark; the second, 3:44 later, gave him the record outright.
The Lakers found some offense of their own, scoring the next three goals before Skibitsky found the net. Weber closed out the half in the final seconds, scoring his first collegiate goal and giving Alfred the 10-5 halftime lead.
Lynch scored Alfred's first three goals in the third period to give the Saxons a seven-goal advantage (13-6) with just over nine minutes left in the frame. Oswego State was able to cut the deficit in the fourth period to four goals before McMichael and Fornataro put the game out of reach with four minutes to play.
Senior
Jimmy Pratti (Slatehill, NY/Minisink Valley) led the team in groundballs with eight and Bishopp had six. Weber also had four groundballs. Alfred had seven players with one caused turnovers.
Junior
Chris Bucciarelli (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) went the distance in net making 14 saves as he earned the win.
