Seven E8 Schools Ranked in Winter Directors' Cup Standings

Ithaca College heads the list of seven Empire 8 schools found in the final winter standings of the 2016-17 Division III Learfield Director's Cup with 383 points.

The Bombers, who were 44th after the the fall season, have moved up to 18th after making national tournament appearances in women's basketball, women's swimming and diving, women's indoor track and field and men's wrestling. 

Ithaca competed in women's volleyball and men's cross country during the fall. 

The Ducks are ranked 36th with 258.50 points following a 10th place finish in men's wrestling and competing in the women's swimming and diving championship. Stevens had three national tournament apparences in the fall in women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's cross country.

St. John Fisher College earned 50 more points in the winter to bring its total up to 128 thanks to a first round tournament game win in men's basketball. The Cardinal's fall points came from a ninth place finish in field hockey and its first ever NCAA apperance in men's soccer. 

Alfred University added to its record breaking football season in the fall as junior Seth Spicer competed at the NCAA indoor track and field championship in the heptatlon and finished fourth. The Saxons are ranked 123rd in the standings. 

Nazareth is 188th with 50 points that come from women's soccer in the fall. 

Utica College entered the standings at 217 with 40.50 points after Nicodemus Gambill and Clarence Skipper competetd at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Elmira also entered the standings after its fifth place finish in women's hockey and ranks 231 with 25 points. 

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
