Hawks Gather Sweep, 9-0, Over Sage
TROY, NY – The Hartwick men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, 9-0, against non-conference foe, The Sage Colleges on Tuesday afternoon at Prospect Park. The victory moves the Hawks to 1-3 while the Gators, still winless on the season, fall to 0-8.
Hartwick began the afternoon blanking its respective opponents at the top two flights of the doubles portion. The duos of
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Krishna Patel (Brunswick, ME/Pine Tree Academy) and
Nick Adamou (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and
Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) credited the 8-0 scores for the early 2-0 lead.
Quinn McQuade (Oyster Bay, NY/Chaminade) and
Heidi Rice's (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) 8-5 score was enough to get past Shanessa Mendoza and Abbey Clobridge to sweep the doubles segment.
First to finish in singles, Talbot went perfect at the first flight for the 4-0 advantage. Braue followed up Talbot's seamless performance with one of his own at the fourth spot.
Adamou bested Rebecca Jackson, 6-1, 6-1 for the third singles finish putting 'Wick up, 5-0.
Patel (6-2, 6-1) and Rice (6-0, 6-1) each rolled past their opponents at the second and sixth spot, respectively.
McQuade rounded out the 9-0 final after beating his opponent, 6-1, 6-2.
