DELHI, N.Y. --
The Elmira College men's tennis team picked up its first Empire 8 Conference victory of the season, as the Soaring Eagles cruised to a 7-2 road win against Hartwick College this evening. With the win, Elmira improved to 6-4 on the year and has won six of its last seven matches.

Elmira's success on the doubles court continued this afternoon with a sweep of all three matches. Yaniv Kogan '18 and Anthony Colavito '20 teamed up for an 8-2 win at the second spot, while Stephen Gervase '20 and Jordan Curtis '19 claimed a win at the third position by an identical 8-2 score. Patrick Tracey '18 and Chris Konow '18 rounded out today's doubles victories by earning a single break to edge their counterparts from Hartwick at the top spot, 8-5.

With a 3-0 lead, Elmira needed just two singles victories to clinch the win. Instead, the Purple and Gold exceeded that count and marched away victorious at the second, fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

Gervase was the first Soaring Eagle to finish his match, as the rookie netter breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fifth position. Gervase's match was quickly followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win by Kogan at the fourth spot, which clinched the victory for the Purple and Gold this evening. Curtis followed suit with a 6-4, 6-1 victory, while EC's last win in singles action came from Tracey, who served-up a pair of bagels for a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 position.

The win from Tracey gave the Bardonia, New York, native 24 career singles victories, good enough to move him into sole possession of fourth place in program history.

Hartwick would go on to claim wins at the first and third positions, but were mere consolations as the Hawks dropped their third straight.

In His Own Words…
Head Coach Tom Linhart shares his thoughts on today's win…
"Today was another complete performance from the guys up and down the lineup. We dictated play from the start in doubles and continued to play at a high level in singles. I am very pleased with the way the guys took care of business today."

Coach Linhart talks about EC earning its first conference win…
"Any time you get a win is a good day, but getting a win against a conference team makes that win even sweeter. This win was important for our postseason goals and will hopefully translate into another win this weekend against Nazareth."

Coach Linart reflects on Elmira's surging play as of late…
"I think our results are a testament to all the hard work these guys have put in since the fall. We are hitting the ball clean and making smart decisions on the court in high-pressure situations."
