Ithaca Stays Perfect in E8, Sweeps St. John Fisher 9-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team continued to steamroll through its Empire 8 slate on Friday afternoon, blowing past St. John Fisher College in a 9-0 sweep at the Wheeler Tennis Courts. The win improves the Bombers record to 7-4 on the year and 3-0 in conference play.
It was another dominant effort by IC on Friday, as they did not relinquish a single flight for the third straight match to begin in conference play. It is the first time in program history that the Bombers have begun Empire 8 play with three consecutive 9-0 sweeps.
Ithaca got on the board quickly during the doubles portion of the match. Senior
Wes Davis and junior
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos scored the first point with an 8-3 triumph over the Cardinals' Jacob Zarzycki and Dustin McCullough in the second flight. Just minutes later, freshmen tandem of
Minos Stavrakas and
Colten Lavery picked up a hard-fought 8-5 decision over Kevin Kulawiec and Quinn Magiera in the top flight.

Max Prestwich ensured that the Bombers would have a stranglehold on the match heading into singles play. The IC tandem bested Jonathan Harper and Adam Moran in a comfortable 8-4 decision.
The Bombers clinched the match with a pair of dominant victories in the top two flights. Stavrakas scored Ithaca's fourth straight point with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Kulawiec in the top flight. The win was Stavrakas' 15
th singles victory in the top flight. Davis followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Fisher's Magiera in the second flight to clinch the match for IC.
A pair of freshmen added on to Ithaca's lead shortly after the match was clinched. Prestwich tallied his sixth singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Zarzycki. Spiegel scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Cardinals' McCullough in the sixth flight.
Lavery and McGrath finished off the sweep for IC in the final two matches to wrap up on the day. The freshman Lavery moved to 6-5 on the year in singles with 6-3, 6-2 win over John Miller in the third flight. McGrath wrapped up the match on a high note, as the second-year Bombers' netter posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jarrett Pelton.
