Houghton Athletics Awarded NCAA Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Houghton College Department of Athletics has been awarded an Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant from the NCAA that will fund a two-year, full-time internship focusing on athletics administration and coaching.
The hired individual will serve full-time for 10 months during each of the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years as Assistant to the Athletic Director / Assistant Coach. The position is designed for candidates who desire a career in athletics administration and will provide broad experience in home game event management, sports information and marketing, compliance, and diversity programming. In addition, the candidate will be expected to serve as an assistant coach for one sport, which will include one of the following: men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, softball, baseball, or track and field.
"We are very excited that the NCAA chose to fund our proposal," said Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics H. "Skip" Lord. "Increasing our gender and/or racial diversity is a high priority for us. This grant will allow us to move in that direction."

This program provides funding for entry-level administrative positions at NCAA Division III schools and conference offices to encourage access, recruitment, selection and the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women.
As part of the grant internship, the NCAA provides $23,660 to support the salary of the hired intern and $3,000 in professional development funding during both years of the program.
The Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant is restricted to candidates who are female and/or from a racial/ethnic minority as described by Federal Guidelines of the Office of Management and Budget.
