PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Lindsey Thayer picked up where she left off after pitching a no-hitter on Tuesday as the junior tied an NCAA Division III record with 21 strikeouts in seven innings as the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team swept the Nazareth College Golden Flyers on Friday in an Empire 8 conference doubleheader.  With the wins, Fisher, which has now won seven straight games, improved to 25-5 while Nazareth slipped to 13-11.

Thayer's 21 strikeouts eclipsed her previous career high of 20, which she set in a win over Rochester Institute of Technology on April 14, 2016.  Thayer, who was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday, became just the second player ever to notch 21 strikeouts in seven innings joining Jennifer Martinez of St. Joseph's Long Island who did it twice.  She is the first to accomplish the feat since May, 2008.

Over her last two starts, the Winthrop native has not surrendered a run in 14 innings of work with 39 total strikeouts.

FISHER 3, NAZARETH 0

Fisher plated a pair of runs in the top of the first when Sarah Kubik singled to center to score Katie Mazierski and Julia Sortisio who had reached base despite not coming up with a base hit.
The Cardinals scored an insurance run in the third inning Ashley Prince reached on an error that allowed Mazierski to cross home plate in the 3-0 decision.

Mazierski, who was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association 25 players to watch in the race for National Player of the Year, went 3-for-3 at the dish with a pair of runs scored and a walk to raise her batting average to .557 in the process.

FISHER 21, NAZARETH 3

Fisher erupted for 21 runs in the second game, which marked the team's highest output since scoring 40 runs on April 30, 2007 in a win over Wells College.

Monica Moses moved to 10-1 with the win after the sophomore allowed two unearned runs in three innings on two hits.  Allison Uberty pitched the final two inning and surrendered one run on four hits.
Fisher sent 12 hitters to the dish in the top of the first and scored seven runs on seven hits.  Genevieve Paeglow had two RBI in the inning while Prince, Karlie Neale, Danielle Ventrone and Sortisio each drove in a run before Nazareth retired the side.

Ventrone notched another RBI in the top of the second after lifting a sacrifice fly to right that scored Kubik who had walked to lead off the inning.

The Cardinals biggest inning came in the top of the third with eight runs on six hits and a pair of Nazareth errors.  Kristina Balsano and Sortisio each came up with two RBI in the frame as Fisher extended its lead to 16-0 heading into the home half of the third.

Nazareth got on the board when its turn to bat came around with two run on two hits, but Fisher plated two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth when MaryClaire Grosvenor blasted a three-run home run to bring the score to 21-3.

In all, Fisher was credited with 18 hits including seven extra base knocks.  Mazierski collected three more hits in the win while Paeglow finished the contest 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.
