UTICA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team got back in action on Tuesday afternoon with the third match of its three-match road swing at Utica College. The Bombers got back in the win column with its sixth Empire 8 sweep of the season, besting the Pioneers 9-0. The victory secures IC the second seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament.

For the sixth time in conference action the Bombers raced to a big early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. The pairing of Ben Sharpe and Charlie Vaca got things started for Ithaca with an 8-0 whitewashing of Austin Diller and Alfonzo Whitehurst in the third flight. The matchup was Vaca's first appearance of the year, while Sharpe also scored his first doubles win of the year.
 
Ithaca's top tandem of Wes Davis and Nate Wolf also made quick work of their opponents. IC's senior duo bested Garrett Noake and Marcel Dupuis of Utica in another 8-0 win. The Bombers' middle pairing of Brandon Buksbaum and Garrett Boleslav wrapped up the strong start with an 8-1 decision over the Pioneers' Luc Boby and Alex Roberts.
 
IC only conceded six total games during the singles portion of the match, easily finishing off the 9-0 sweep. Of the six matchups, two of them ended in 6-0, 6-0 straight sets wins.
 
Sharpe scored Ithaca's fourth point with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Jake Nigolian in the fifth flight. It was Sharpe's first singles win of the season. Davis clinched the match shortly thereafter with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Utica's Chris Dunn in the top flight.
 
Buksbaum extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Utica's Dupuis in the third flight. Wolf conceded two total games, blowing past the Pioneers' Garrett Noake in back-to-back 6-1, 6-1 sets in the second flight.
 
Boleslav notched Ithaca's eighth team point with the second 6-0, 6-0 victory of the singles play. He defeated Utica's Paul Litvak in the fourth flight. Vaca wrapped up the match in style with his first singles win of the year, besting Luc Boby 6-2, 6-0 in the sixth flight.
 
Ithaca wraps up the Empire 8 regular season on Thursday, April 27, with its final home match of the 2016-17 campaign. The Bombers welcome Alfred in a 4:00 p.m. start at the Wheeler Tennis Courts.
