Alfred's doubles sweep Hartwick as Saxons pick up 7-2 Empire 8 win

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team claimed a 7-2 Empire 8 Athletic Conference win over visiting Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon on the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.
 
The Saxons (4-7, 2-4 Empire 8) sealed the win when sophomore transfer Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. After his win, the score was set at 5-1 in favor of the hosts with a vast majority of support from the Alfred University doubles pairs that swept the Hawks.
 
Smock and junior captain Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) were the first Saxons on the day to claim a win as they topped Nick Adamou and Ross Braue 8-6 at No. 2 dubs. Sophomore Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and first year Jacob Nordin (Ann Arbor, MI/Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor) followed with an 8-6 win of their own over Drew Tyrol and Quinn McQuade at No. 3 while seniors Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) and captain Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) rounded out the doubles' dominance with an 8-4 No. 1 win over John Talbot and Krishna Patel.
 
Brown earned Alfred's fourth match point with his win over Braue at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Wisniewski earned a three-set win against Adamou, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 3 singles. Kemper rounded out the scoring with his No. 5 singles win 6-3, 7-5 versus Tryol.
