The 2017 Empire 8 Softball Tournament is ready to get underway this weekend, with four teams battling for a chance to win the postseason conference championship and earn the E8's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

The playoffs begin on Friday, May 5 with as second-seeded St. John Fisher College plays third-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology at 1pm, followed by top-seeded Ithaca College verse fourth-seeded Nazareth College at 3:30pm. 

The tournament will continue with four games Saturday, and the Championship on Sunday.

Tournament Quick Facts
The Empire 8 Athletic Conference will employ a four team double-elimination tournament format for the 16th straight year (2002-2017). 

Ithaca will host the tournament and serve as the No. 1 seed for the 13th time.

The Bombers have only missed the tournament once (2013). 

Ithaca has won the Championship ten times  (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016).

Ithaca is an impressive 38-13 in the E8 postseason with a 19-9 record against 2017 tournament teams (16-9 v SJFC; 1-0 v Naz; 2-0 v Stevens)

The longest tournament game went 16 innings in 2009 with RIT defeating Ithaca, 1-0.

Fisher has appeared in every tournament except one; 2014.  

?Fisher has won the Championship four times (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013).

Fisher's record in the E8 tournament is 33-24 with a 10-16 mark against other teams in the 2017 tournament (9-16 v Ithaca; 0-0 v Naz; 1-0 v Stevens). 

Stevens is making its fifth appearance in the tournament since joining the E8 conference in 2007-08.

Nazareth returns to the tournament for the first time since 2008. 

Stevens and Nazareth have never won an E8 tournament game. The Ducks are 0-8 in the tournament, while Naz is 0-2.
