Saxon men’s tennis team edges Pitt-Bradford for season’s first win

OLEAN, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2016-17 season Tuesday evening, defeating host Pitt-Bradford, 5-4, on St. Bonaventure University's indoor courts in Olean.
 
AU (1-2) split six singles matches with the Panthers. Sophomore Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) took second singles, 8-2; sophomore Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) won fifth singles, 9-7; and freshman Jacob Nordin (Ann Arbor, MI/Rudolf Steiner) claimed sixth singles, 9-7.
 
The Saxons took two of three matches in doubles play. Smock and junior Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) won second doubles, 8-2, while Nordin and freshman Aaron Vit (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) took third doubles, 9-7.
 
AU is in action next on Thursday, April 30, at 1 p.m., when the Saxons visit Houghton College in their Empire 8 Conference opener.
