Houghton Continues Strong Play with 9-0 Win over Alfred
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis stayed perfect in Empire 8 play (2-0) while moving to 8-2 overall on the season with a 9-0 win over Alfred University at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
The match was initially to be played at Alfred, but inclement weather forced the move to Houghton.
After sweeping doubles play, the Highlanders finished the match with six strong singles performances.
Zach Shilvock won his first sey 6-0 but faced a battle in the second before closing it out 7-5. Third singles was another hard-fought match for
Jake Fisler. The freshman lost 5-7 in the opener before winning the second set 6-1 and taking the deciding set in a 10-6 pro set win.
The Highlanders host Geneva College on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. in the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
