Get to Know: Eileen Blumenauer

Eileen Blumenauer is the women’s soccer coach at Utica College.
Where did you attend college? I started out at Herkimer County Community College and majored Social Sciences while also playing both soccer and lacrosse. Then I transferred to SUNY Geneseo where I also played soccer and lacrosse and majored in Psychology.
What made you chose to attend Herkimer and Geneseo College? I went to Herkimer first because I really liked the environment and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do career wise. Then I transferred to Geneseo because I wanted to get a good education and a competitive playing experience.
What brought you to Utica? Utica is a great school for education and athletic opportunities and I was interested in Utica because I like the area and the Empire 8 is a strong conference.
What is the best thing about the Utica Campus? How friendly everyone is.
What is the first word that comes to mind when you hear ‘Utica’? Opportunity.
Who has been the most influential person during your career? My parents. They know how passionate I am about soccer and to create a career about that passion is great.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to spend time with family and friends. I like to stay active by running and hiking.
Top three things on your bucket list?
I would really like to travel to different places….Ireland, Hawaii and Alaska.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I did not play high school lacrosse because it wasn’t offered. But when I was playing soccer at Herkimer the lacrosse coach saw how fast I was and wanted to get a stick in my hand and I really ended up enjoying it.
