Prince's Homer Aids Fisher's NCAA Opening Round Win
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team came out victorious in its NCAA Division III First round Regional match up, downing Penn St. Behrend, 2-0, at Fisher Softball Complex Friday afternoon. With the win Fisher, improves to 37-6 on the season while the Lions move to 26-13.
Fisher only needed one inning to secure the win, coming on the back of some solid power hitting near the front of the lineup. With it scoreless through 4.5 innings,
Katie Mazierski creamed a triple to lead off the bottom of the side. That was just the spark
Ashley Prince needed as the junior sophomore belted a bomb that cleared the fence and gave Fisher all the runs it needed.
\With the game being so narrow, pitching played a large part.
Lindsey Thayer toed the rubber for the Cardinals, punching out 16 through seven frames and improving her record to 24-5 on the year. The Winthrop native now sits at 362 strikeouts on the season, marking the second-straight year she's eclipsed the 350-mark.
Going forward in the tournament, Fisher will square off against Manhattanville College at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Valiants defeated William Paterson University, 5-4, in their first round tilt.
