2017 Baseball All-Tournament Team and MVP

The 2017 Empire 8 Baseball All-Tournament Team has been announced. 

Ithaca – Ryan Henchey (MVP), Trevor Thompson, Jake Binder, Robby Buffis
St. John Fisher – Malcolm Kelsey, Anthony Brophy, Allen Murphy
Stevens – Danny Poidomani, Carlos Leon
Elmira – Conor Bawiec

Hencey was named the tournament MVP as he hit .364 (4-for-11) with a double, three runs scores and three RBI in a 3-0 week for the Bombers. He opened the tournament going 2-for-4, including the game winning two-run double down the left field line to propel Ithaca, 4-3, over Elmira. In the Championship game he finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. On the field, Henchey totaled eight assists, one putout and was involved in one double play in the tournament.

Thompson went 4-of-12 (.333) at the plate with two doubles and one run scored. He was nearly perfect in the field at short stop with five putouts, 16 assists and one error.

Buffis made two apperances on the mound for Ithaca in the tournament. He pitched 6.2 innings against Elmira and scattered four hits with two runs allowed (one earned) and struck out two batters. Buffis 
fired the final two innings against Fisher in the title game and gave up just one hit. In the ninth inning he induced a double play and followed up with another ground out to punch Ithaca's ticket to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Binder tossed a complete game against Stevens as Ithaca won 4-1. Binder scattered six hits, walked one and struck out a pair.

Kelsey went 5-for 12 at the plate over four games, giving him a .417 batting average in the tournament. He hit a home run, drove in two runs, scored three times and totaled four putouts in the outfield. 

Murphy hit .333 in the tournament (4-for-12) with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. He also tossed two hitless innings in the 7-6 win against Stevens to pick up his first win on the mound. 

Brophy picked up his ninth win of the season on the mound after allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings against Elmira. 

Piodomani allowed three runs over 8 1-3 innings to propel the Ducks to a 7-3 victory over No. 14 St. John Fisher to open the Empire 8 tournament. 

Leon hit .444 (4-of-9) over three tournament games. He scored three runs and stole three bases. From his third base position it recorded two putouts and seven assists. 

Bawiec finished with three hits in 10 at-bats in two tournament games. He also fired eight innings on the mound as he scattered eight hits, struck out three and allowed two runs.
