2017 Men's Tennis Tournament Quick Facts

The 2017 Empire 8 Athletic Conference (E8) Men's Tennis Tournament is set to take place this weekend, with four teams battling for a chance to win the postseason conference championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The playoffs begin Friday, May 5 with two semifinal matches and the Championship will take place on Saturday, May 6.

Friday, May 5
No. 4 Houghton vs No. 1 Stevens 
No. 3 Fisher vs No. 2 Ithaca 

Outdoor -  One match (#2 seed Ithaca vs. play #3 Seed Fisher) will be played indoors at Mendon Racquet Club. The other match (#1 seed Stevens vs. #4 seed Houghton will play at Nazareth College.

Rain/Indoor - Both matches would be at Mendon Racquet Club. Both would have a start time of 4pm (Warm-up at 3pm).
 

Saturday, May 6
Championship Match

Outdoor - Played at Nazareth at 10am (9am Warm-up, 10am start time)

Indoor - Played at Mendon Racquet Club at 10am (9am Warm-up, 10am start time)
 

Before the action begins, here are some quick facts you should know about the conference tournament. (*Quick facts will be based on the current tournament format years 2008-2017).

The Empire 8 will employ a four team tournament format for the tenth straight year. Prior to the 2008 tournament, the E8 champion was based on an eight-team format.
 
Stevens and Ithaca have qualified for the tournament every year.

St. John Fisher is making its sixth straight tournament appearance.

2017 marks the first time Houghton has qualified for the E8 tournament since joining the conference in 2012-13.
 
The tournament has played out according to seeding seven times (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).

Stevens will serve as the No. 1 seed for seventh straight year.

The #1 seed is 9-0 in the semifinal game of the tournament. #2 seed (8-1), #3 seed (1-8), #4 seed (0-9).
 
The #1 seed has won the conference championship eight times (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).

The #2 seed has won the title once (2010). 
 
The #3 and #4 has never won the conference title.

Ithaca and Stevens have played in the championship game every year since 2008.  Ithaca has won once (2009) with the Ducks winning the other eight years.
