Dobbins Named Fisher Men's Lacrosse Head Coach
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team has named
Dave Dobbins as its new Head Coach, beginning the summer of 2017. After a year-long stint as the Associate Head Coach, Dobbins will take over for long time coach, John Johnson, at the helm of the program.
Working primarily with the offense during the Cardinals' 2017 campaign, Dobbins is excited to further the program. "My family and I are both grateful and excited for the opportunity to carry on the tradition and success that Coach Johnson has created here at St. John Fisher College," Dobbins stated. "He {Coach Johnson} has built the program from the ground up and has left it set up for success"
A native of the Rochester area, Dobbins came to Fisher by way of the Ohio State University where he served on the coaching staff from 2009-14. With the Buckeyes, he helped coach them to an ECAC Championship and a trip to the NCAAs as quarter finalists. In 2013, the year he was promoted to Associate Head Coach, the squad went 13-4, marking the program's best record to that date.
Prior to Ohio State, Dobbins was the Assistant Lacrosse Coach at Salisbury University from 2003-09. While there, the Seagulls saw plenty of success including posting an impressive 121-5 record and securing Division III National Titles in 2004, 2005 and 2007. Dobbins was also named the 2005 Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMCLA) Outstanding Assistant Coach of the Year in Division III.
Aside from coaching, Dobbins also served as the Upstate New York Director for '3d Lacrosse', a company that works to provide innovative lacrosse training as well as recruiting showcases and premier lacrosse leagues across the United States.
Currently residing in Fairport, Dobbins lives with his wife and four daughters. He also holds a B.A. in mathematics from Colgate University (where he played four years of lacrosse) and a Master of Education Degree from Salisbury.
