GENEVA, Ohio –
The nationally-ranked No. 4 Ithaca College women's track & field team maintained its first place position after Day Two of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at SPIRE institute in Geneva, Ohio with 30 team points on Friday. Ithaca competed in two events on the day, with one final event, which resulted in two points for the Bombers. Stevens Institute of Technology stands in 15th place with eight points.

Senior Brandy Smith was one of two Bombers to compete, and she finished up competition in the shot put in seventh place overall, which garnered Ithaca two points for her All-America finish. Smith took part in the first flight of 22 entries and wound up in fourth place through three attempts with a mark of 14.03 meters (46 feet). After the second group entered the field, she registered a mark of 14.05 meters (46' 1.25") on her fourth attempt for her top throw of the championship to come in seventh overall.

It is her seventh all-time All-America honor, and second in as many days during the 2017 Outdoor Championships. Smith garnered two All-American performances this past indoor season, to go along with her other two national title showings in the discus, and an indoor weight throw in 2016.

Junior Amber Edwards was also in action on Friday in the 100-meter hurdles. Edwards was seeded 16th heading into the race with a personal-best time of 14.53 seconds. Out of the blocks, Edwards hung with the lead runners in the third heat for the first half of the race, but clipped the seventh hurdle to knock her out of contention as she finished in 16.46 seconds.

After a protest and review, it was determined that another runner impeded Edwards' progress in the race, which resulted in her hitting the hurdle. The games' committee convened and came to a conclusion that Edwards would be given a fair opportunity to race again in tomorrow's final at 12:50 p.m.

She will run alone as the 10th seed in Saturday's final prior to the other nine finalists for a chance to become an All-American.

Stevens Institute of Technology's Gina Dello Russo concluded her inaugural collegiate track campaign with a time of 56.85 seconds, and a 14th-place finish, in the 400-meter dash preliminaries.

Against a field of the top runners in the nation, Dello Russo, who entered the race seeded 16th, finished with the third-fastest time in Heat Three, but did not qualify for Saturday's championship race.

Also on Saturday, Ithaca junior Taryn Cordani and Stevens senior Amy Regan will run in the 5,000-meter race at 3 p.m.
