No. 40 Stevens Draws No. 20 MIT in NCAA Tournament
HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 8, 2017) – The 40th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team received a first-round bye and will face No. 20 Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Second Round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Championship. It will be the second consecutive year that the teams will meet in a second-round match.
The match will be held Friday afternoon at Bowdoin College's Pickard Tennis Courts. The match time is still to be determined. Nichols College and the University of Massachusetts-Boston will compete in a first-round match Thursday for the right to play the hosting Polar Bears.
The Ducks received one of the tournament's 35 automatic bids after sweeping Ithaca College Saturday to win its eighth-straight Empire 8 Conference championship. Junior
William Persson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Including two E8 tournament matches, the Ducks only dropped one point in conference play in reaching the NCAA tournament.
The winners of the two second-round matches will compete Saturday for the regional championship. The team advancing from this weekend's regional will travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the team championship finals, hosted by the University of the South and the Chattanooga Sports Commission, May 22-27.
Student-athletes selected to the individual championship will be announced May 10.
