2017 Softball All-Tournament Team and MVP
The 2017 Empire 8 Softball All-Tournament Team has been announced.
St. John Fisher – Lindsey Thayer (P) - MVP, Karlie Neale (C, Ashley Prince (OF), Julia Sortisio (OF)
Ithaca – Haley Congdon (P), Vanessa Brown (3B) and Jessie Fleck (OF)
Stevens – Farryl Groder (OF) and Corinne Loncar (SS)
Nazareth – Nicole White (P/DP)
Thayer was named the tournament MVP after she went 3-1 last week to lead Fisher to the 2017 Championship. Thayer allowed three earned runs in 28 innings of work for a .75 ERA. She struck out 58 batters and surrendered 14 hits in all while limiting the opposing batters to a combined .152 average.
Prince hit .429 (3-of-7) in the tournament including a homerun and a double. She also scored two runs, drew seven walks and tallied two RBI.
Sortisio recorded three hits in the tournament and two putouts.
Neale caught every inning of the tournament for Fisher and recorded 60 putouts and three assists.
Congdon went 2-2 over the weekend, pitching a total of 28 innings through five apperances. She allowed 15 hits and four earned runs over that stretch, while striking out 22 batters.
Fleck went 8-of-14 (.571) at the plate with three doubles and one RBI. She scored four runs and was perfect in the outfield with five putouts.
Brown hit .667 (10-of-15) at the plate over five games played with six runs scored and two RBI. In the field, she had five putouts and eight assists with no errors.
From the plate, Loncar had a double and a triple as she drove in three runs. At shortstop she recorded 11 assits and three putouts.
Groder went 6-for-10 at the plate over three games, giving her a .600 batting average. She hit two doubles, drove in two runs and totaled four putouts in the outfield.
White pitched six innings against Ithaca and recorded four strikeouts. She then had an RBI single against Stevens.
