Hartnett Named Head Cross Country Coach at Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY – Dr. Kim Fierke announced the hiring of Tom Hartnett as the new head men's and women's cross country coach at Hartwick College. Hartnett served as the head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Services for the past five years.
           
"I am pleased to welcome Tom as the next men's and women's cross country coach," said Fierke. "He has a proven record of working with student-athletes and the ability to have them compete at their highest level. With his experience, he will be a wonderful addition to the athletic department and I look forward to positive growth in the cross country program."
           
While at ACPHS, Hartnett led his women's cross country program to a pair of Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) championships in 2014 and 2016. The team also posted a 3rd place finish in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships in 2016.

"I am very excited to join the Hartwick Athletics Department," Hartnett stated. "I look forward to building a strong program within the Empire 8 and the Atlantic Region."
           
Hartnett, a two-time HVIAC Coach of the Year, has helped develop seven USCAA Cross Country All-Americans, six USCAA Track and Field national champions, 25 HVIAC All-Conference members, and five HVIAC Cross Country champions in his five seasons at ACPHS. In addition, his athletes have been named USCAA Academic All-Americans 77 times and HVIAC All-Academic Team members on 32 separate occasions.
           
As an undergraduate, Hartnett competed in both cross country and track and field at the Division I level at Siena College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in History. He attained a master's degree in the same disciple from Union College.
           
Hartnett has a United States Track and Field Association Level One Coaches' Certification, a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Track and Field Technical Certification, and is American Red Cross CPR/AED certified.
