The Empire 8 Athletic Conference had five men's and five women's swimming and diving teams chosen as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America teams for their academic work through the spring 2017 semester, as announced by the CSCAA.
The Team Scholar All America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2017 semester.
The Nazareth College men were the highest ranking team among those from the conference on the list with a 3.35 gpa. Joining Nazareth on the list was Alfred University (3.21), Ithaca College (3.16) and Hartwick College (3.15).
On the women's side, Ithaca posted the top Empire 8 ranking with a 3.66 grade-point average. Nazareth (3.28), Alfred (3.23) and Hartwick (3.19) also made the academic list.
In addition, the Empire 8 had nine athletes earn an individual Scholar All-America award. The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.
The Honorable Mention Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard, but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets.
