Stevens Baseball honored with ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award
HOBOKEN, N.J. (July 14, 2017) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team was one of 214 teams honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association Thursday with its
Team Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a grade point average (GPA) over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2016-17 academic year.
"It was great to see our guys take their academic success to another level in 2016-2017," commented head coach
Kristaps Aldins. "They keep raising the GPA bar higher each year and it speaks to their competitiveness, even off the field. Although impressive GPA's are great, our coaching staff is more concerned with our guys striving to reach their own personal-best rather than shoot for a tangible numerical mark. This type of "team academic-approach" has minimized academic under-achievement in our baseball program. I am excited to see what 2017-18 has in store for our squad!"
The Ducks were one of 58 teams from Division III to be recognized after compiling a 3.527 GPA in the fall and a 3.535 GPA in the spring. It is the second straight year that Stevens baseball was among the ABCA's honorees.
