Ellis Wins Regional Coaching Award
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Highlander men's and women's tennis head coach
Charlie Ellis was recently named the College Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association - Eastern Division.
Ellis, who just completed his fourth season, had his most successful year at the helm of the Highlander programs in 2016-17. He guided his women to a record of 7-8 and 3-5 in the Empire 8 Conference, while leading the men to its first Empire 8 postseason tournament appearance. The Highlanders finished 12-6 overall and grabbed the fourth seed in the E8 tournament with a 5-3 conference record. Four Highlanders earned all-conference honors following the campaign.
"This is really more important for my team than for me," said Ellis. "The teams were formed just four years ago and have quickly transformed into a program of excellence. It is really the work of God, I believe. All of my players are humbly appreciative of the gifts God has given them. Their faith has encouraged me as a coach. This award would not have happened without their commitment."
