Four Women’s Volleyball Teams Receive AVCA Team Academic Award
AVCA Release
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Although the 2017 women's volleyball season is right around the corner, accolades from the 2016 campaign are still coming in for Empire 8 teams. Four E8 teams were rewarded for their excellence in the classroom by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as four of the 822 teams across the country to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Elmira College, Houghton College, Ithaca College and St. John Fisher College garnered the prestigious academic award. The Empire 8 teams account for just a fraction of the record-setting 822 teams that received academic honors from the AVCA, a mark that shattered last year's record number of 762.
