Deuble, Palmerino Named GCAA Scholar All-Americans
NORMAN, Okla. – Two members of the St. John Fisher College men's golf team were honored this week as the Golf Coaches Association of America added
Jeff Palmerino and
Karl Deuble to its previously released
Division III Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholar Team.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Deuble, who was named First-Team All-Conference this season, played in each of Fisher's 10 tournaments this season and tied for first place twice at both the St. John Fisher Invitational and the Empire 8 Fall Championship. The senior went on to finish tied for fifth in the conference's spring championship and took second place overall at the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Championship. Deuble's average score of 77.48 was nearly two strokes better than the requirements set forth by the GCAA.
Palmerino, who also took part in all 10 tournaments during the 2016-17 campaign, concluded his senior season with a team-low 77.06 average. He earned three top-three finishes including a second place showing at the Oswego State Spring Invite along with two third place finishes at the conclusion of both the Empire 8 Fall and Spring Championships where he was named First-Team All-Conference.
The Cardinals continued their impressive streak as the team earned its seventh straight Empire 8 Championship along with an appearance into the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.
