Golden Eagles and Saxons Remain in Top 25
A pair of big wins to open Conference play, The College at Brockport (3-0, 1-0) and Alfred University (2-0, 1-0) are once again representing the Empire 8 Athletic Conference (E8) in the D3football.com Top 25.
Brockport moved up three spots to No. 19 in the nation following a 38-7 victory over St. John Fisher College (0-3, 0-1). The win marked the first ever Courage Bowl win for the Golden Eagles and snapped the Cardinals streak of 12 Courage Bowl wins. The Golden Eagles are now 3-0 on the season, which marks the first time they've began a season with three straight wins since 2012.
Alfred fell four spots to No. 23 in the poll. The Saxons rode a record-setting performance by junior wide receiver Jayden Gavidia and a solid defensive effort to earn a 24-17 victory over visiting Utica College Saturday afternoon.
Alfred piled up more than 400 yards of offense, while the AU defense held the visiting Pioneers (1-2, 0-1 E8) to 267 yards, including a mere 93 in the first half.
Brockport will be back home next Saturday, when they host Utica for a game that's set to kick off at 4 p.m.
Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m., when the Saxons host the University of Rochester on Homecoming.
