Fisher Holds 28 Stroke Lead After Two Rounds of Empire 8 Champonship

ONEIDA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's golf team will have a distinct advantage next spring as the Cardinals will enter the Empire 8 Spring Championship with a 28-stroke lead after shooting a two-day total of 585 (+9) at the Empire 8 Fall Championship at Kanon Valley Country Club.
Fisher shot a second-round 291, which was three strokes lower than its opening round score. SUNY Oswego sits in second place at +37 through 36 holes while Stevens Institute of Technology is third with a team total of 622 (+46). Oswego shaved nine strokes off its first round score, jumping Stevens, who the Lakers trailed by just one after Saturday.
Nicholas Calabrese fired the individual low score with a two-day total of 140, which is four strokes under par. Calabrese entered the day at -1, but was able to shave three strokes off after scoring -5 overall on par fives.
Andrew Fedele and
Colin McGaugh each tied for third place at 147 (+3) while
Wyatt Gorham finished tied for sixth at nine-over-par.
Michael Long sits in a two-way tie for 12th place at +11 and
Christopher Thompson tied for 16th place with a two-day score of +15.
Oswego's Nick Gramuglia had a great Sunday, shooting a one-over 73 to help pace the Lakers. On Oswego, Gramuglia only trails
Corey Marshall, who stayed consistent over the fall portion of the tournament. Marshall shot a 75 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday for sole possession of fifth place (plus-7, 151). Gramuglia is in a tie for sixth with a two-round total of 153.
Also in the top 10 after two days is
Sean Paul Owen, who is in a four-way tie for eighth with a 154. Owen was balanced both days, scoring a 77 for each round. Just one stroke out of the top 10 – in a two-way tie for 12th – is
Erik Schleicher. Schleicher tallied a 79 on Saturday but knocked off three strokes on Sunday for a 76.
SUNY Potsdam placed fourth out of ninth teams during the fall half of the Empire 8 Championships. The Bears posted a 645 and were led by senior
Dylan Murphy's 154 (78-76) for an eighth place finish. Senior Jordan Fordyce tied for 16th with scores of 78 and 81 for a 159.
Utica College is in fifth place after the Pioneers totaled a 338 on Sunday for a two-round total of 654. Freshmen
Josh Kienz and
Brandon Young each carded an 82 on the day to lead the Pioneers. Kienz is currently tied for eighth overall with a two-day total of 154, while Young is tied for 21st as he shot a 163 on the weekend.
