Utica Women's Cross Country Ranked 8th in Atlantic Region
UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's cross country team has earned a spot in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Week One Regional rankings for the first time in program-history. The Pioneers are the lone Empire 8 team in the top ten as they are currently ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic region.
Utica, off to its best start in program-history, opened its season with a first place team finish at the SUNY Polytechnic Short Course Invitational. The Pioneers came right back the following weekend with a second place team finish at the Hamilton Short Course Invite.
In week one at SUNY Poly, junior
Renee Lewis (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) took home first place overall, her first collegiate 4K victory, with a time 17:16.4. Utica dominated the race with a top five average time of 17:41. Four of the Pioneers top five finishers landed in the top ten overall.
MaKenna Cooley (Remsen, NY/Remsen) placed third overall with a time of 17:24.
Kaitlyn Stinson (South Kortright, NY/South Kortright Central School) placed fourth at the meet with a time of 17:34.
In week two at Hamilton, the Pioneers had three top 10 finishers at Hamilton as
Kaitlyn Stinson (South Kortright, NY/South Kortright Central School) took home sixth place with a time of 15:11.9,
MaKenna Cooley (Remsen, NY/Remsen) added an eighth place finish (15:21.4) and freshman
Jessica Ostrowski (Peabody, MA/Peabody) placed 10th with a time of 15:33.9.
The Pioneers have this coming weekend to rest before returning to the course on Saturday, Sept. 23rd at SUNY Polytechnic.
