Alfred Stays; Brockport moves up; Fisher Receiving Votes
Fresh off big wins on Saturday afternoon, both the Alfred University and The College at Brockport football teams are ranked in the latest D3football.com Top 25 Poll.
Alfred (1-0) stayed at No. 21 in the country after opening the 2017 season with a 20-17 win over Ithaca College. The Saxons trailed by four points at halftime but scored the lone points of the second half midway through the fourth quarter to secure the win over former conference opponent Ithaca.
Alfred took over at its own 23-yard line following a punt. The Saxons marched 77 yards in 10 plays, going ahead 20-17 after a 26-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Bryce Morrison (Kennedy, NY/Randolph) to junior wide receiver Jayden Gavidia (Homer, NY/Homer) with 7:51 left in regulation.
AU is idle next weekend and returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when the Saxons host Empire 8 Conference foe Utica at 1 p.m.
Brockport entered the poll for the first time since 2012 at No. 25. The Golden Eagles started their season with a statement win, taking down No. 14 ranked Hobart College 34-20. Brockport used 606 yards of total offense to earn the victory, led by Joe Germinerio who threw for 360 yards and Justin Morrison who rushed for 169.
Brockport will have their home opener next Saturday, September 9th when they welcome Ithaca College to Bob Boozer Field for a game beginning at 2 p.m.
St. John Fisher College is among teams also receiveing votes following a season opening loss at Washington and Jefferson, 37-27. With the loss, Fisher, which was ranked No. 23 preseason D3football.com national poll, moved to 0-1 while the Presidents, who were receiving votes in the same poll, improved to 1-0 and entered the top-25.
Fisher will look to get back on track at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 when it travels to Geneva to take on Hobart.
